PLENARY SESSIONS* These keynote talks are headlined by seasoned educators by notable keynote speakers who are seasoned educators, leaders in their respective fields and Apple Distinguished Educators from the region. This year's Plenary Sessions will feature the following Keynote topics:
DAY 1 Technology and Education in the World Today Featuring Mr. David Larson Design and Digital Technology Teacher at Canadian International School of Hong Kong, Board Member at Apple Distinguished Educators Advisory Board, Approved Workshop Facilitator at East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS), Apple Distinguished Educator Technology is rapidly changing the lives of our students, from how they communicate and relate to each other to what careers they are now considering. Despite these changes, many classrooms remain relatively unchanged, creating a significant gap not between what our students need to learn to prepare them for the world and what they actually encounter in our schools. What are educators around the world doing to close this gap? DAY 2 Big Data and Evolving Online Media Featuring Ms. Maria RessaFilipino journalist, CEO of Rappler Philippines The hyper-connectivity brought about by the internet is reshaping how we gain and share information. Nowhere is this more evident than in media. How does hyper-connectivity change the ways media outlets find information? How do we determine truth from media in an era of constantly changing information and data? How has media shifted the audience from a passive receiver of information to an active participant in the news? DAY 3 Why So Serious? The Importance of Having Fun in the Classroom Featuring Ms.Melinda Alford Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator, Cebu International School, Apple Distinguished Educator As evidenced by the inordinate amount of time they spend playing video games, we know that students are willing to focus on complex, time-consuming, and difficult tasks when those tasks are inherently engaging. How can technology increase student engagement in the classroom? How can we as educators have some fun as we learn new technologies? The One2One Journey Featuring Br. Dennis Magbanua, FSC President and Chancellor, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Apple Distinguished Educator The sessions in the previous two days hopefully have inspired new ideas and possibilities. Bringing these opportunities to fruition, however, must be an institutional endeavor. What is the journey like? What successes and challenges can schools encounter? |
